Wild Ginger

Brooklyn is like a wonderful vegan paradise. There’s numerous dedicated vegan cafes at every corner. General fair places are bound to have at least one vegan item. The best part is that no one looks at you like you have three heads when you ask if something is vegan. There’s also a large web resource, Super Vegan for finding reputable vegan/vegetarian restaurants in the area.

I like to frequent Bedford ave when I come to Brooklyn since it has a lot of cool businesses and cafes. I stumbled on a vegan pan-asian cafe called Wild Ginger while there. I was pretty famished after a 4+ hour bus ride down so I didn’t spend too much time researching. Thankfully, I didn’t need to. The menu has a nice tour of various Thai and Chinese dishes and the lunch specials are inexpensive.

I decided on the tofu nuggets with sweet chili sauce. I had pictured them quite differently in my head than how they actually came but the presentation was lovely. It came with a miso soup and a spring roll in a nice almost bento box’esque setup. The nuggets themselves tasted like how I would imagine a delicious vegan happy meal would. They were crispy and filled with some veggies. The chili sauce had a nice kick to it and fit the role of the sweet and sour sauce.

I was very pleased with my simple lunch here but am itching to try their larger entrees. I’ve heard they do a really good seitan. It will definitely be on my plate for my next coming trip.
