Along the brick alley in the hustle of Harvard Square sits a tiny vegetarian cafe called Veggie Planet connected to music venue Club Passim. Tiny is actually kind of an understatement for the size of this place. It literally can only hold about 10 people total, if that. It’s more a place I would get takeout from on a nice day and bring your food to the park. I happen to eat inside that day since I was by myself and it was pretty hot outside.
So, this place is actually more of a vegetarian restaurant than vegan as most of the options has some kind of cheese on them but most items can have said cheese replaced with one of their substitutes like Teese or their Tofu basil mash. Items that don’t require any adjustments to be vegan will be marked with a planet icon. The way it works is you pick one of their dishes as essentially a topping and then you choose if you would like it to be on a pizza, brown rice or coconut rice. A new addition they added as a result of their pizza oven going down was a sandwich option on ciabatta.
I was recommended by several people to try the pizza so I went with the Oddlot. This was a fairly hearty option that had marinaded tomatoes and spinach covered with their tofu basli mash along with crushed up kalamata olives and fried garlic. The tofu basil mash looked a lot like cheese and was slightly crunchy on top. It was very delicious. The crust was wheat based and perfectly thin. The portion of food I got for the slim pricetag was quite nice. I decided to go for a dessert despite being kind of full since a Taza chocolate brownie with coconut ice Cream just sounded phenomenal. I’m a Taza fan so this was way up my alley.
Overall, this place has some good vegan options but the menu might seem a little constricted based on all the items with cheese and such. more than worth a shot if you’re looking for a good pizza option. Address below:
