So yesterday I signed up for a membership to Boston Organics. I’ll be receiving my first box this coming Tuesday. Expect some interesting smoothies because this should be what’s in it:
1 bunch Broccoli (CA)
0.5 lbs Carrots (NH or Quebec)
1 head Green Leaf Lettuce (FL)
0.5 lbs Red Beets (ME or Quebec)
0.5 lbs Watermelon Radishes (MA)
2 Anjou Pears (WA)
1 lbs Bananas (Ecuador or Peru)
2 Fuji Apples (WA)
2 Kiwis (CA)
2 Navel Oranges (CA)
1 Orlando Tangelos (FL)
Today’s smoothie is courtesy of the Liv Life blog to which she pulled from a blog called the Mommy Bowl. I don’t know much about this blog or about any of the blogs I’m taking smoothie recipes from as my decision process on what I’m going to make goes something like this:
I have bananas, blueberries and spinach, what can I make with those?
*google search*
*click on random links with ingredients listed*
I have all those ingredients, I will make that one!
As for what I think, it’s pretty delicious. The cinnamon is a nice addition to the banana. Almost reminds me of chai a bit. Mine’s color was nothing like that beautiful purple on their blog, it was more like a yellow-green. I subbed the coconut milk for my vanilla almond milk since I don’t usually keep coconut milk around. (once again, not raw but can be made raw) This is the first smoothie I’d had with spinach in it. I’m a spinach fan but I don’t usually mix it with fruits. It works in this context because the fruit flavors kind of just mask it except for a faint odd aftertaste. Unfortunately my Ninja blender doesn’t handle greens as well as a Vitamix so I have lots of teeny tiny spinach specks in mine. I had a feeling I would start to get Vitamix lust eventually but I think I’ll keep rocking the Ninja until I decide to upgrade.
