VeeVee

Along the main drag of centre street in Jamaica Plain lives modern bistro VeeVee, a quaint spot perfect for a casual to upscale dining experience. Inside, the decor is very modern with a slate rounded bar along with a few little nooks and alcoves dressed with cushions seats.

One highlight of VeeVee is their Wednesday Vegan Prefix special. It’s never listed in advance what will be available but every experience I’ve had with it has been exquisite. The first course is a salad usually featuring some unique favors like grapefruit or endive. The main course has been tomato based the couple times I’ve been and bursting with savory flavor. The dessert was a pound cake with a thick sorbet on top that perfectly compliments it.

Now for the meal I had on this particular date. There is always at least one vegan option that’s available all week. This dish was more summery featuring large Peruvian Lima beans and a red salsa along with an assortment of spring vegetables and parsnips. One of the hurdles I had to overcome upon going into Vegan Summer was my apprehension towards beans. For those with a similar apprehension, these beans almost resemble potatoes due to the size and heartiness. The salsa was essentially the main flavor with many crunchy fresh vegetables underneath. A light, tasty summer dish. I also tried out the mushroom purée soup. It was a savory blend that would have had me convinced that an animal stock was used had I not been told it was vegan.

Overall, VeeVee is a lovely place for a quiet night with a significant other or even by yourself at the bar where the staff will chat you up. I would not recommend this place for a party larger than 4. It’s really made to be an intimate place for dates and small groups due to it’s limited seating. Keep in mind that the vegan options are extremely limited. Some dishes can be converted to vegan but it’s not recommended. The beer selection from what I remember was mostly vegan but the wines may not be depending on your views. The address is below:
