So today’s was a doozy. I found a great blog this week, Young and Raw. They had a good assortment of raw options especially green smoothies. I hadn’t really made a true green smoothie yet so I thought I would give it a shot. This is the first true raw smoothie I’ve made, btw. Exciting stuff!
This guy is the Green Ginger Apple smoothie. So I did do one sub only because both of my local co ops were out of parsley. Cilantro was the closest substitute I could find so I used some of that. I guess parsley has some blood cleansing properties so I’m unfortunately missing out on that. The cilantro has some great stuff though like reducing inflammation and removing metals and toxins.
I wasn’t really a fan of this one only because I realized I didn’t prepare it properly. I’ve been using the wrong setting on my blender. So my Ninja has three settings: Dough, Blend and Crush. Apparently I was supposed to be using the Crush setting because it’s faster and it will break down the leaves more thoroughly. The Blend setting resulted in a rather chunky smoothie. Not so pleasant. Kinda tasted like a salad. I’m tempted to add lime to it because I feel like it would compliment the cucumber and cilantro. It was good to have before a workout because it was pretty light and refreshing. I plan on doing this one again tomorrow on the right setting hopefully yielding better results.
